I was quite saddened to be reminded of Dick Vogel's passing even though I learned of it many years ago.  My memory of him goes back to kindergarten at St. James Church in Chatham Village.  His mother was the organizer of the kindergarten and it was an absolute pleasure, especially with Dick there.  His mother and mine stayed in contact for many years.  I knew him well all the way from kindergarten to high school graduation.  He smiled a lot and always seemed to be more positive than everyone else.  Many times I have regretted his passing as though he had been a family member.  His memory is important to me.

I learned a number of years ago that Dick had passed away.  Dave Harshbarger, Dick and I used to

play touch football at Grange field.  Dick and I would also play tennis together and he actually got me

interested in the sport.  One day, we decided to try to hit 50 balls over the net in a row with one bounce.

The most important rule we had was there would be no lunch till we did it.  About two hours later we

had lunch.  This persistency of effort  carried over to my competitive days in the sport.  Thanks Dick.
