MISSING CLASSMATES

Charles Nelson

We regret to inform you of the passing of our classmate, Charles Nelson in January.  His brother Donald informed me recently.  Don is also our classmate, but the two brothers were not twins.  Many in our class thought they were including me.  Charles lived in Salt Lake City.  He and his wife had five children, but sadly his wife predeceased him.  Charles will be missed and certainly by his brother Donald.

Theodore Keyser

We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Ted Keyser, legendary coach and teacher at Haverford, at the age of 97.  By going to Legacy.com you can find Mr. Keyser's obituary.  At the time of his death, he was living in Laguna, CA.  Mr. Keyser was a very interesting and talented individual.  The members of his teams and students all benefited from the time they were under his guidance.

Thanks to John Salyer for bringing this to our attention.

How About Them Iggles

You can take a Haverford grad out of Philly, but you cannot take the love of the Eagles out of us no matter where now live.  A great game and so satisfying to no longer hear of a Kansas City Dynasty.  And now we have the whole season (hopefully) to follow the World Series bound Phillies!

Frauke Saalmann Vogel

It is with extreme sadness and regret that we inform you of the passing of Frauke Saalmann Vogel.  Frauke was a friend to everyone with whom she came in contact.  She also was the wife of our classmate Richard Vogel who passed away in the year 2000.  Not only was Frauke a wonderful friend and classmate, she was a very important member of our reunion committee for many years.  Frauke attended our last reunnion committee meeting on October 4, 2024 and is in the picture below in the top row between John Salyer and Cheryl Kirk Flail.  You can find her obituary by going to the Radzieta Funeral home website (radzieta.com).  Currenty there are not any arrangements to report, but there may be a remembrance ceremony sometime in the future.  We will keep you informed.  Frauke will really be missed!

Yes, There Will Be a 65th Reunion!

By popular demand, at least in our opinion, there will be a 65th Reunion in the fall of 2027.  The Reunion Committee got together for lunch in September just to reconnect.  The question was asked, however, should we have a 65th, and the unanimous response was to do so.  Obviously, a long way off, but gives us plenty of time to plan and get input from the class.  We will hold another lunch meeting in May 2025 and will keep you informed.

HHS Grad on Best Seller List

James McCloskey, HHS 60, is the co-author with John Grisham of a book entitled Framed, that is currently #4 on the New York Times best seller list.  It has been as high as #1, but has dropped a couple of spots this week.  Jim is the brother of Richard McCloskey, HHS 61.

From the book jacket:  "Jim Mcloskey founded Centurion Ministries, the first organization in the world devoted to freeing the wrongly convicted. Since its establishment forty years ago, Centurion has freed seventy individuals, all of whom spent decades in prison serving life or death sentences for the crimes of others."  A previous fiction book by John Grisham entitled The Guardians was about such a case of an individual wrongly accused and convicted for murder.  Grisham dedicated that book to Jim McCloskey and referred to him as "The Exonerator" due to his great work over many years in obtaining justice for wrongly convicted individuals.  As a result, Grisham and McCloskey collaborated on this non-fiction work.  It is a facinating book to read.

I had the good fortune of meeting Jim a few years back after golfing in Princeton with Al Kaemerlen, Bill Martindale, and Bernie Schaffer.  They all knew Jim well and he invited us over to his house in Princeton.  It was a fascinating evening, meeting Jim and tagging along with these three HHS basketball greats!  We all serve on the Juenger Scholarship Fund Committee.

Lunch in Naples

Bill and Linda King were the guests of Betsy and Bernie Schaffer for lunch at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Naples, Florida this past January.  The picture below shows the group with the Gulf of Mexico (yes, I am not buying into the Gulf of America idea!) in the background.  It was great fun with lots of catching up and reminiscing of the glory days at Haverford.

William Jackson

I continue to stay in touch with Mr. William Jackson, track and cross country coach and Biology teacher to many at Haverford.  He is doing well and he and his wife Donna are living in Raleigh, NC.  Bill will turn 90  in October!  If anyone wants connect with Bill, let me know and I can provide his contact info.
